After the angsty disappointment of the fourth installment in the series, it was a welcome relief to return to the adventure and intrigue expected from the Peculiar Children。 (Maybe Mr。 Riggs was going through his own dark moment with the previous volume and needed to work through something?) The emotion's still present, but Jacob's no longer slouching in the corner and whining every other paragraph。 Instead, you finally get to delve further into the peculiar world and remember there IS a plot at hand。 Even with the combined weight of the looming American war and the pressure from the wights, you feel the glimmer of light brought through by the characters。 The quirks and personalities get back on track, and Noor slides into place like a puzzle piece you discovered dropped on the floor。 Mr。 Riggs's ability to seamlessly blend the photographs into the narrative remains nothing short of astounding。 My only complaint is the final chapter, where the blatant need to steer everyone into a particular place to accomplish the needed task felt forced - and wrong。 (view spoiler)[After EVERYTHING, how could Jacob and Noor blindly accept the postcard? They chased it without a second thought, which came across as jarring and almost deus ex machina。 (hide spoiler)] Mr。 Riggs could have accomplished the same goal in a better way without losing the characters' integrity。 。。。more

The first novels in this series seamlessly blended the vintage, eerie photographs with a taut, well-paced plot and a diversely entertaining cast。 As the series progressed, it seems to me anyway, that the photographs became superfluous and the plot a bit plodding, while the main character became a one-note, one-dimensional bore。 Still an enjoyable read, but this one falls short of its potential。 I'm going to move on #6, because I've come this far, I hope it's a little better than #5。 The first novels in this series seamlessly blended the vintage, eerie photographs with a taut, well-paced plot and a diversely entertaining cast。 As the series progressed, it seems to me anyway, that the photographs became superfluous and the plot a bit plodding, while the main character became a one-note, one-dimensional bore。 Still an enjoyable read, but this one falls short of its potential。 I'm going to move on #6, because I've come this far, I hope it's a little better than #5。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I'm a big fan of this series。 Ransom Riggs' writing never fails to keep me on the edge of my seat。 While reading this, you feel like you're almost right there with Jacob and the rest of the kids, anticipating adventure just as much as they are。 However, I do have to say that I am not too fond of the romance between Noor and Jacob。 I think it was unnecessary, considering that there was so much else going on, yet their relationship was focused on in moments when it shouldn't have been。 I also real I'm a big fan of this series。 Ransom Riggs' writing never fails to keep me on the edge of my seat。 While reading this, you feel like you're almost right there with Jacob and the rest of the kids, anticipating adventure just as much as they are。 However, I do have to say that I am not too fond of the romance between Noor and Jacob。 I think it was unnecessary, considering that there was so much else going on, yet their relationship was focused on in moments when it shouldn't have been。 I also really don't know how to feel about the prophecy plot。 I understand that Noor needed to have some sort of purpose, but quite honestly, I think she is a bland character。 I don't know, maybe I just need more warming up to her。 I think her being party of the prophecy is better than Jacob being in it, though, since it would be extremely cliché if he were to be。 I think Jacob's character development has been good, too。 Though this book did kind of seem like a filler in the series, I'm okay with that。 Loved the cliffhanger at the end, too! It's established great potential for the finale, and I am excited to read Desolation of Devil's Acre。 。。。more

I really liked this one! I was disappointed in the last one。 I do wish I had remembered more about it to help with this one but I managed。 It does have alot of damns and hells and more romance so probably not for tender younger readers。 Anxious for the next one。 This is one series that I have faithfully followed。 AR 5。3; 12 pts

Ik hou van de personages, de tijdlussen, 。。。 Alleen jammer van de profetie, verzamelen van relicten, 。。。 beetje gepikt van een andere schrijver ?

Did I enjoy this? Sure。 Was it necessary? not at all。 There seemed to be a really interesting direction for this second trilogy talking about a whole new set of peculiar interactions and a whole new world maybe fighting for/against a prophecy。 Instead, we are getting a really lazy "bring back the big bad" trope。 It's fun, but kind of dumb。 I'll read the next one because maybe it'll make up for how listless this one felt。 Did I enjoy this? So enjoyed this book and thought it was the last 。 。 。 To my surprise there's a 6th book and I'm so excited it just came out a month ago。 I cannot wait to continue the story。 This has definitely caught me by surprise and been an amazing book series。 Hoping the last book is just as deep, detailed, and well thought of as the last books。 Loved the change of hearts, the new insights and more。 So enjoyed this book and thought it was the last 。 。 。 To my surprise there's a 6th book and I'm so excited it just came out a month ago。 I cannot wait to continue the story。 This has definitely caught me by surprise and been an amazing book series。 Hoping the last book is just as deep, detailed, and well thought of as the last books。 Loved the change of hearts, the new insights and more。 。。。more

An action filled continuation of the peculiar children, with a new addition。 Part catches up with the peculiars and even more dangerous enemies are rising putting their skills and knowledge to test。 And ends in a cliffhanger of course for follow up。Whilst I enjoy the curious tale and the pictures used in it, I also find it occasionally too unrealistic regarding how the children behave given the contrasting visual age and true age。

I really loved how fast paced this book was。 It seemed to fly by, and all of the plot events were quite interesting。 This book did seem kind of like a "filler" at some points, like a few of the scenes were just there in order to prep for book 6。 I did really like how more characters (such as Hugh) were getting involved rather than the usual 2-6 (such as Jacob and Emma)。 Peculiar America is really cool to read about, especially with the clans。 Something that I wish would happen would be for certa I really loved how fast paced this book was。 It seemed to fly by, and all of the plot events were quite interesting。 This book did seem kind of like a "filler" at some points, like a few of the scenes were just there in order to prep for book 6。 I did really like how more characters (such as Hugh) were getting involved rather than the usual 2-6 (such as Jacob and Emma)。 Peculiar America is really cool to read about, especially with the clans。 Something that I wish would happen would be for certain characters (ones that I will not say because ~spoilers~) had a love interest or another plot line connected to them。 I do really like the new characters that we've seen in this book and in the last one。 I will admit that I'm not a huge fan of Jacob, but I do like some of his reactions to certain scenarios。 Overall, I quite liked this book and I'm excited (and nervous) for the end of the series! 。。。more

Mulle selle sarja eelmised raamatud meeldisid, aga i just couldn’t get into this one。 Ja ma ei tea, kas see oli selle pärast, et see raamat oligi halb või oli probleem selles, et ma ei mäleta absoluutselt, mis eelmises raamatus toimus。

I enjoyed this book but I thought it was the last book in the series。 I assumed I was a few pages away from all of the answers to my questions, only to realize that there is one more book。 But of course I will read it because I have to know how all of the pieces of the story are tied together。 In book 5, Jacob helps Noor search for her mother, the mysterious V。 As in all the books they battle Wights and Hollows。 Jacob discovers that he has deep feelings for Noor as she becomes a real part of the I enjoyed this book but I thought it was the last book in the series。 I assumed I was a few pages away from all of the answers to my questions, only to realize that there is one more book。 But of course I will read it because I have to know how all of the pieces of the story are tied together。 In book 5, Jacob helps Noor search for her mother, the mysterious V。 As in all the books they battle Wights and Hollows。 Jacob discovers that he has deep feelings for Noor as she becomes a real part of their family。 The book concludes with a huge cliffhanger。 It appears that Caul has found his way out of the collapsed loop that has held him prisoner。 Sometimes the fight scenes seem like they could be interchanged in any of the books。。。but they still hold my attention and keep me coming back。Stay tuned for more。 。。。more

If it wasn't the ending, I would give this book 0 star。1。 The romance between Noor and Jacob WTF---? Emma? what, I-。。。 2。 I HATE the resuscitation of a character。 It would have been better if the autor created a new villain。3。 The I-am-a-hero vibe o a Jacob, it is a NO。4。 Too simple5。 Don't make sense with the first trilogie。。。the end was a little bit suprising, but it wasn't a plot twist。。。Really dessapointed about this book who had great potential。 6。 I don' like Noor and th prophecie。Imagine If it wasn't the ending, I would give this book 0 star。1。 The romance between Noor and Jacob WTF---? The story was interesting but kind of just felt like those filler episodes in a show where sure, you get some information but it's mostly just more path laying and then a cliff hanger。 The more of Jacob we get the less I like him unfortunately, while he's narrated as modest there's also an undercurrent of vanity in the way he speaks of himself in correlation with others。 I also think the sudden jump to a new girl that he hasn't really built anything other than some adrenaline rush moments with i The story was interesting but kind of just felt like those filler episodes in a show where sure, you get some information but it's mostly just more path laying and then a cliff hanger。 The more of Jacob we get the less I like him unfortunately, while he's narrated as modest there's also an undercurrent of vanity in the way he speaks of himself in correlation with others。 I also think the sudden jump to a new girl that he hasn't really built anything other than some adrenaline rush moments with is kind of ridiculous and unnecessary。 I didn't think he should be with Emma either but like be single for a minute child, damn。 。。。more
